What ages can participate in the after-school program?
Our program is designed for kids ages 5-13.
My child is under 5. Can I still enroll them?
We do not enroll children under 5 years old. We would love to touch base with you again when your child has turned 5!
When is the program available?
After-school sessions run Monday through Saturday, with flexible start and end times that fit most school schedules. Many families choose to attend 1–3 days per week depending on their child’s availability, with session lengths of 1, 1.5, or 2 hours.
Our hours are as follows at all Steamoji BelRed+ locations:
M-F: 2:30 PM - 7:00 PM
Sat: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
How long are sessions?
You have the option to choose session lengths of 1 hour, 1.5 hours, or 2 hours.
What will my child do?
Every session is spent working on a hands-on project, with the project specifics depending on your child’s individual Journey to Master Maker. After badging in, your child will go to their workstation, which will already be set up with everything they need to work on their project. They will watch short, step-by-step videos that will walk them through the project while explaining the concepts they are putting into practice. Kids work at their own pace, with plenty of time for experimentation and creativity.
If your child has questions or needs help, they can raise their hand and a Facilitator will come over to help.
Does my child need to come at a specific time based on their age/interests?
No, our program is self-paced so you can book sessions to suit your schedule.
What is the Journey to Master Maker?
The Journey to Master Maker is Steamoji’s structured learning roadmap that helps apprentices build real-world skills across engineering, 3D design, coding, robotics, and digital arts. It’s designed to develop confidence, creativity, and problem-solving skills step-by-step. Each individual child’s Journey is unique, taking into account their interests and aptitudes, our staff’s recommendations, and their parents’ goals for them. No two apprentice Journeys are exactly alike.
How does my child progress?
Apprentices move through levels by completing “Missions”, which are sets of hands-on projects with a common theme. Missions in each skill pathway build upon each other, providing a reinforcing learning structure as Apprentices continually practice the skills they have learned in previous projects and Missions.
You can track your child’s progress through our Member Portal and Parent App.
When will my child level up?
Apprentices level up after completing the requisite number of Missions based on their current level. Tinkerers must complete one Mission to level up to Crafter, Crafters must complete two Missions to level up to Builder, and so on.
You can check your child’s progress via the Member Portal and Parent App.
How will I know what my child is learning?
You’ll receive regular updates about your apprentice’s progress on the Journey to Master Maker through the Maker Moment videos that our Facilitators record with every session.
In addition, we conduct quarterly progress check-ins for all of our Apprentices, diving deeper into the skills they are acquiring, our recommendations for the next steps on their Journey, and your feedback.
Do you have opportunities for team/collaboration?
Yes, there are a couple of ways in which we offer opportunities for teamwork and collaboration.
The first is through Build Nights, events in which our Facilitators guide Apprentices through builds that are not in our main curriculum. Many Build Night projects are team projects which require cooperation between Apprentices. Check your Academy’s event calendar or reach out to your Academy Manager to learn more about Build Night options for your child.
The second is through our robotics competition clubs. We have FIRST LEGO League (for ages 5-8) and VEX IQ (for ages 9-14) robotics competition clubs in which Apprentices can design, build, and code robots as a team. They will have the chance to showcase their builds and even compete against other teams. Visit our Robotics Competition Club page for more information on these programs.
Do I have to use hours for Build Night?
With the exception of quarterly Open Build Nights, you do need to use hours to participate in Build Night events.
What are Drop-in Sessions? Do they do a video?
Drop-in sessions are a different way to use your hours as an Annual member. Rather than using the time to work on a curriculum project, your child can use the time for a project of their own design. When your child arrives for a drop-in session, a Facilitator will help them fill out a worksheet outlining the goal of the session and how they intend to accomplish it.
Drop-in sessions can be used to practice skills from a pathway the Apprentice has already completed, to work on a team project with one or more other Apprentices, to participate in Build Night, or to customize and improve a curriculum project.
Facilitators will still record a Maker Moment video for drop-in sessions.
How do I book a Steamoji session?
You can book online via the Member Portal or the Parent App.
On the Member Portal, navigate to your child’s profile and select “Book a Session”.
In the Parent App, select “Sessions” from the bottom menu, and then “Book a Session”.
From there, you can select your preferred date and time. You can also optionally make the session ‘recurring’ if you want the same session date & time every week.
Why can’t I book a session for tomorrow?
Our system doesn’t allow new sessions to be booked within 24 hours. This allows us to plan for the Apprentices on the schedule and to ensure the best possible experience for our Apprentices and staff alike.
If you are trying to book more than 24 hours in advance and are still having trouble, please contact your Academy Manager.
What if my child misses a session?
No problem—sessions can usually be rescheduled or made up within the same month.
While our system does not allow changes to sessions within 24 hours, you can always contact your Academy Manager to make adjustments.
What do I do in case of an emergency or last-minute schedule change?
We understand that schedules change. If you need to make a last-minute adjustment, please email your Academy Manager as soon as possible with the details of your request.
If we hear from you more than 30 minutes in advance, we are happy to cancel the session and refund the hours so you can rebook at another time. If we don’t hear from you within 30 minutes of the beginning of your child’s session, we will be unable to make changes and the hours will not be refunded.
Is the equipment safe for kids?
Yes. All projects are designed for age-appropriate learning, and we have rules in place to ensure the safety of all Apprentices. Some tools have age restrictions, while others are only for Facilitator use.
What is the Apprentice-to-Facilitator ratio?
We maintain a low ratio (typically 4:1) so every Apprentice gets hands-on help and personal attention.
What are the workshop rules/code of conduct?
You can find our Code of Conduct here.
Do I need to stay while my child is in their session?
No, parental supervision is not required.
How does membership work?
Memberships provide access to weekly after-school sessions, workshop equipment, and our full learning curriculum. You can choose the plan that fits your family’s schedule—most members attend 1–3 sessions per week.
Is there a registration or materials fee?
Your membership includes all tools, materials, and project supplies. There are no hidden costs.
Can I pause my membership?
Annual members can pause their membership for up to two months per year by providing written notice at least one week in advance. This will extend the membership by the number of months it was paused for.
Monthly memberships cannot be paused.
Can I cancel my membership?
For Monthly memberships (including Lite), we require 30-days advance notice in writing (via email or in person) to cancel a membership. We also request that members complete a consultation to help us understand the cause of the cancellation and improve our services.
To cancel an Annual membership, there are two options:
1. You can pay the remaining balance for the number of months remaining in your agreement.
2. We can retroactively adjust your membership to a Monthly membership. To do this, you pay the difference between your monthly rate and the cost of the Monthly membership for however many months you have been a member. The 30-day notice of cancellation policy will apply in this case.
Is Steamoji FSA-eligible?
Yes, both our after-school program and our camps are FSA-eligible. Please reach out to your Academy Manager to request an FSA-compliant receipt.
How do rollover hours work? How many are carried forward and for how long?
If you are an Annual member, you have the option to roll over unused hours to future months. These hours don’t expire as long as you have an active membership.
To use your rollover hours, you will first need to schedule your regular hours for the month. Once you have done that, contact your Academy Manager to schedule the rollover hours on your behalf.
Is there a discount for being a Microsoft employee (or another company)?
Not at this time.
Is there a military discount?
Not at this time.
Are there scholarships available?
Not at this time.
How do I transfer to a different location?
Please email your Academy Manager to initiate a transfer to a different location.
Note that we will be unable to transfer your account to a different Academy while you have an active membership.
Are you open on holidays? Where can I check for Academy closures?
